While you are familiar with GMO products, considering you are in charge of the food selection here at Penn State, I am not exactly sure you are aware of the fatal harm in which they are capable. In a recent article published in Scitable, P.h D Theresa Philips tells that GMO’s serve purpose in the preservation of crops, as well as enhancing their nutrient content through the alteration of genes and DNA (Philips). Conditional farming in today’s day in age relies heavily on genetic modification of fruits, vegetables, meats, and more. However, there has been a recent movement toward organic farming and banning the use of pesticides due to the long-term affects these products have caused on the human body. In this article published in the Scientific American, glyphosate’s affects on the human body are proven and explained in a more in depth view. In order to end this, we must go organic and rid the genetically modified foods that surface campus, specifically East Campus. This will not be difficult, considering the numerous organic farms nearby to order from that surface state college, PA.
